Start a Custom Jewelry Project
Start a custom jewelry project with Forge & Fern by telling Britt Wolf a little about the piece you have in mind. Every inquiry is reviewed personally. Forge & Fern accepts a limited number of projects based on design fit, budget, schedule, and available studio capacity.
You do not need to arrive with a finished design. A gemstone, photograph, old piece of jewelry, sketch, memory, or simple idea may be enough to begin.
Start a Custom Jewelry Project
When you are ready to begin, the first step is simply telling Britt what you are considering. You may know exactly what you want, or you may only have the beginning of an idea.
A custom piece can begin with a gemstone, meaningful symbol, special occasion, heirloom piece, or story. You are not expected to solve the design before contacting Forge & Fern. That is part of the conversation.
Sending a custom jewelry inquiry does not commit you to a purchase. It gives Britt enough information to decide whether the project may fit the studio.
What Should I Include in My Inquiry?
When sending a custom jewelry inquiry, include whatever information you already have. Helpful details may include:
- The type of jewelry you are considering
- The story, person, occasion, or idea behind the piece
- Any gemstones or existing jewelry you want to incorporate
- Your approximate budget
- Any important timing considerations
- Photographs, sketches, or reference images
You do not need every answer before contacting Britt. A custom jewelry consultation helps the practical questions begin taking shape.
Materials, gemstone choices, proportions, construction, durability, and wearability can all influence the final direction.
You Do Not Need a Finished Design
You do not need to design the jewelry yourself before you begin.
Some clients arrive with a specific vision. Others bring an unusual gemstone, inherited jewelry, loose idea, or meaningful story.
Britt can help determine which ideas translate well into jewelry. He may also suggest changes when construction or wearability requires another approach.
The goal is not to force your idea into a predetermined catalog design. Custom jewelry design should respond to the person, materials, and purpose behind the piece. Good custom jewelry design also considers structure, durability, and long-term wear.
Every Custom Jewelry Inquiry Is Personally Reviewed
Forge & Fern is a small independent studio, not a high-volume custom department. Britt personally reviews each custom jewelry inquiry and accepts only a limited number of projects.
Before accepting a custom jewelry project, Britt considers the design, budget, materials, schedule, and current studio capacity.
Submitting a custom jewelry inquiry does not guarantee acceptance. If the project appears to fit Forge & Fern, Britt will contact you personally.
Working Directly With a Custom Jewelry Designer
If a project moves forward, you work directly with Britt, your custom jewelry designer. You are not passed between salespeople and production departments.
That relationship keeps the story and practical requirements connected to the custom jewelry designer developing the piece.
An experienced custom jewelry designer also considers how the finished piece will be built, worn, and maintained.
Custom jewelry design can include sketches, CAD images, gemstone options, photographs, and other visual references.
A custom jewelry consultation may use email, photographs, phone calls, or video. The goal is clear communication throughout the custom jewelry project.
Why Clients Trust Britt With Important Jewelry
Some projects involve an engagement diamond, inherited gemstone, heirloom jewelry, or another piece that cannot simply be replaced.
Britt Wolf has spent more than four decades designing, building, repairing, restoring, and setting jewelry.
Before Forge & Fern, he founded BVW Jewelers in Reno. He grew it into a million-dollar jewelry store serving tens of thousands of customers.
Forge & Fern is intentionally much smaller. That allows Britt to remain personally involved with each accepted custom jewelry project and its materials.

Existing Gemstones and Jewelry
You may start a custom jewelry project with a gemstone or piece of jewelry you already own. Existing stones or jewelry elements may sometimes become part of a new design.
Each item must be considered individually. Condition, durability, gemstone size, construction, and the requirements of the new design all matter.
Britt cannot determine suitability until he has enough information to evaluate the item and proposed project.
Custom jewelry design around an existing gemstone may require changes to protect the stone or improve long-term wearability.
